Mitchell Bridges Limited specialise in the manufacture and hire of temporary pedestrian and vehicle bridges for both short and long term contracts. Our qualified installers have a wealth of experience to develop solutions for the most demanding locations
We have engineering experience from 1970 and have developed customised bridges for the most demanding of access projects. Together with our independent structural engineers Scott-White and Hookins, we not only maintain modern safety and quality standards, but have developed many years' experience in obtaining local authority approval for our customers' projects
Pedestrian Bridges

Our pedestrian bridges are typically 1.8 metres wide which allows three people to walk side by side enabling 5,000 people to cross each bridge every hour. Bridges can also give a clear span of up to 45 metres with a 5 kilo Newton/sq.m loading

The unique design of the pedestrian bridge also provides for a variety of financial benefits:

  • Quick installation with minimum disruption
  • Road closures can be kept to as little as three minutes
  • Bridges with complete staircases and towers can be installed in two days
  • Steel construction with aluminium deck and wooden stair treads - all with non-slip protection
  • Crane size can be reduced due to the bridges low weight/size ratio
  • Foundations are not normally required for short-term hire where ground conditions permit
  • Full compliance with the relevant British Standards along with recommendations from the Institute of Structural Engineers, Department of National Heritage and the Department of Transport
Vehicle Bridges

We have a range of 8, 12 and 24 metre vehicle bridges for construction sites, roadway and other vehicle access projects. They are typically designed to carry loads of 45 tonnes, but higher capacities can also be specified. Please contact our engineering department for details

Key Installation Team

Peter R Mitchell

Managing Director

Peter Mitchell has been involved in engineering since 1970 where he ran a company manufacturing specialist hydraulic equipment. In the 1980's he expanded into the events business where he uncovered the need for temporary bridges. Organisers soon discovered they could expand their events and attract more visitors by erecting a temporary bridge to access more land without having to move from established locations

Mitchell Bridges has now been building temporary bridges since 1988 and has developed into one of the largest temporary pedestrian bridges suppliers in the world. Most of the hire stock of over 50 bridges are regularly in service around the country. Please see our current client list for an indication of the kind of project we can undertake
